After a relaxing ride along the whole of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, we found ourselves in Pickering with a couple of hours to occupy ourselves before the last train back. We could wander round the streets and maybe grab a brew in a café or… WE COULD GO TO A CASTLE!
For eighteen miles between Whitby and Pickering, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs steam and diesel locomotives through the gorgeous North York Moors National Park. But to Rowan, a steam train can only mean one thing – the Hogwarts Express. I was really looking forward to our day out with a difference.
My last post on our trip to Whitby will be much shorted than I anticipated. I had planned a visit to the Dinosaur and Fossil Museum in Robin Hood’s Bay, then a walk across the clifftops to Boggle Hole and back again along the beach. However, waking up for our last, fun filled day, I found myself pretty poorly, so the walk was out of the question.
After a busy first day and despite our late night, we managed to wake in plenty of time for a lovely cooked breakfast to set us up for the day. As promised the night before, we strolled back down to the harbour to find the pirate ship to start the day with another boat ride (this was to become a theme).
Back in August, I decided I wanted to take Rowan away for a couple of days before he started school. Rick doesn’t get as many holidays as me, so leaving him at home with Rocky and Pebble, we headed to North Yorkshire and the lovely seaside town of Whitby. Traffic on the A64 meant the drive took a lot longer than we thought, so we arrived much later than we had planned. We were determined to make the most of our time there though. After dropping our things at the bed and breakfast, we set out to explore the town.
